Jahshaka Revisited (2.0 RC3)

World Cup IntroAbout a year ago I played around with an open-source real-time animation and effects program called 'Jahshaka'. At the time it was at version 1.9 alpha. They are now at 2.0 RC3. To test it out I created a sample animation that might work for the World Cup... tell me what you think of this World Cup Intro Clip.

Some details:

  • Soccer ball is an imported 3-D object

  • Sample clip shows how layers can be 'keyframed' to change location, rotation, scale, transparency, etc.

  • This clip probably took about 2 hours to put together. I had to render it in Jahshaka as a series of images. Then I used VirtualDub to put those together as an AVI. Finally, I used Windows Movie Maker to add the sound effects and music. What do you think?

Hey Blaine...That looks stunning !..It's amazing what can be achieved with free software. If you put together any more examples I'd be very interested to see them in action.

BTW...I like the design of your blog - Nice colours and very easy on the eye.

I concur with Al's thoughts...both on the clip and especially on the blog! I really like the 'snapshots'
feature. Thinking about employing it on my site too! Very nicely done!

I had a hard time getting movies out of Jahshaka. It would create a series of images but trying to get a working .avi took some work. I haven't used Jahshaka much since, and they've been really slow on developing new features, so I'm not as excited about it as I once was.

Hi Blaine. I made a great .jsp with Jahsaka, but I was not understanding how to use VirtualDub. I downloaded the program, but it says it doesnt support a .jsp format. Please advise on how I can convert a .jsp file to something usable. THANKS!

I believe the .jsp is the project file. Once you have finished your project, you need to render it as a movie. This creates a set of image files. I used VirtualDub to then open this sequence of images. It can then save it as single .avi file.

Where do I render the Movie at? Jahshaka doesnt have that option.
