Blaine's Custom Transitions Pack 1 Released (Windows Movie Maker 6.0 only)

Blaine's Transition Pack 1As a gift to you, I'm releasing a pack of new transitions for Windows Movie Maker 6.0*. These transitions require the use of Rehan's ShaderTFX add-on. If you've never installed this before, follow the directions on his website and test they work first. If you've already installed a copy of ShaderTFX (registered or unregistered), you can skip these steps.

For a preview of what is included in the transition pack, check out this Transition Pack 1 - Sample Video

For the new transitions pack, there are two installers depending on whether you are running WMM 6.0 on a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows. The installer will put the necessary files into, C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared.
Prerequisite: Rehan's ShaderTFX add-on.

Windows Movie Maker 6.0:
Blaine's Transition Pack 1 (64-bit) Installer
Blaine's Transition Pack 1 (32-bit) Installer

After restarting Windows Movie Maker, you should have 13 new transitions with corresponding icons:
  • Circle Stretch - The second clip appears in a circle and stretches out to replace the first clip.

  • Push Slide - These transitions push the existing clip out of the way. They can go in any of the 8 compass directions.

  • Wiggle In/Out - Either or both of the clips will transition in a wavy, wiggly pattern.

  • Zoom Blur - The first clip zooms toward the viewer and blurs to reveal the second clip.

  • *Note: These transitions require the architecture of WMM 6.0 and can't be made to work on versions 2.6 or earlier.

      1. I have installed this on many computers wont allow you to install 32 bit on 64 bit. All your effects work Blaine anything that needs Rehan (your Transition Packs) just flicker. All links apart on Rehan website go to a site called Infinity a totally unrelated site & your movie maker links (Patricks & Neos) have gone just error cant find. Think maybe someone has done something to ShaderTFX.

      2. Be sure to only install 64-bit on 64-bit. Everything is expected to go in C:/Program Files/Movie Maker/

        I'll remove any dead links.

    3. Excuse me, but they won't seem to work for some reason. It keeps showing off that "This installation package is not supported by this processor type"

Any idea how? I'm using WMM Vista.

    4. Joanna, you are obviously installing the incorrect version. Figure out if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows Vista and use the correct installer.

Since the one you tried didn't work, try the other. Let me know if you continue to have problems.

    6. Does this work on Windows 7 (64-bit)

      ReplyDelete
    7. @GFDTR, yes it does, if you have loaded Windows Movie Maker 6.0. It doesn't work with Windows Live Movie Maker however; that's a completely different version with a different render engine for which Microsoft has not yet published any customization details.

    8. Will I still be able to use these effects after my trial version of Rehan's ShaderTFX expires, just like your Transitions for Compositing and Transulency? What about the effects and transitions that came with Rehan's ShaderTFX trial version? Will I still be able to use those after the trial expires?

      -Thank you!

    9. All of my transitions will work after the trial period expires. Some of Rehan's transitions/effects will not (mostly the wipes).

    10. after installing and re-starting WMM6 I do not see the transitions listed. The DLL and XML are located in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

    11. Do you see Rehan's ShaderTFX transitions? Which version (32-bit or 64-bit) are you using? Is this on Vista or Windows 7? I assume that WMM is also in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker?

    12. I do not see Rehan's ShaderTFX transitions.
32 Vista, and yes, it is C:\Program Files\Movie Maker. Strange...

    15. Did you install DirectX as noted on his page? Try that; if it still doesn't work, check his support e-mail.

    16. tried that and it worked easily. thanks

    17. Does it work for WMM 2.6 for Windows 7? Please reply :)

    18. @trisha, the answer is at the bottom of the post. If you would like to load WMM 6.0 on Windows 7, just click the link at the top of the page.

    19. Will WMM 6.0 put a virus in my computer?

      ReplyDelete
    20. I created all my installers and I've scanned them to confirm they are virus free, but it's always good to have your own virus software to verify any downloads.

    21. I downloaded the 64-bit version and everything seems to be working fine until I place the recent downloaded transitions above between two pictures, all it does is the "fading" effect. What's wrong?

      ReplyDelete
    22. @Rissa, did you download DirectX and ShaderTFX first? You must do that and get Rehan's transitions working first.

    23. When I try to use this a random picture flickers back and forth. I re add it and it choose another picture at random to do this. What is going on here.

      1. Did you get ShaderTFX working first? Also, have you checked your graphics card driver? Finally, even if the preview behaves incorrectly, try saving the movie and seeing if it looks correct.

    24. When I try to use transition it just fades.
I downloade direct x but it still doesn't work.

      1. The order of installing must be:
        1) DirectX9 runtimes
        2) ShaderTFX

At that point, make sure you see the added transitions and effects from Rehan *and* that they work as expected. If not, try the steps again.

        3) Custom Transition Pack #1

If you don't get ShaderTFX working, then any transitions that use ShaderTFX (such as these transitions) will not work and will just show as a default "fade" transition.

    25. I have a new 64bit computer running Windows 10 with DirectX12 installed. I'm getting the 'unable to register ShaderTFX.dll' message. I've manually tried both regsvr32 versions and they both return the same message 'May Not Be Compatible with the version of Windows you are running.'

The date of the dll is 2009-05-20 which suggests to me that there has been no updates for 6 years. Does that mean the ShaderTFX package is at a dead end or is there work happening behind the scene to fix this problem??

      1. As mentioned multiple times, you must load the corresponding DirectX 9 libraries listed on Rehan's website. It doesn't help if you have DirectX 11 or 12.

    26. More than one helper website has stated that if a specific version of DirectX runtime is required by a software package, the installer for that package should INCLUDE the necessary files and the install exe or msi should be doing the responsible thing and plunk the needed files onto the HD.

For other Windows 10 users, this is the download link that finally worked for me. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=8109 It's the runtime SDK package that will install all missing components.

    27. I'm still not able to get Rehan's plug-in to work on Windows 10 64bit. I have found the DIRECTX log files showing the installation of the DIRECTX9 files. I have installed the 64bit version from Rehan's site and entered the registration activation code. Transitions work with WMV and AVI files, but not with JPGs, GIFs and Animated GIFs and I think I can finally explain why this is happening.

In my attempts to solve this problem, I ended up grabbing a copy of Emsa's DLL Register Tool, RegTool.exe. It reports the path that is hard-coded in ShaderTFX.dll to be c:\Program Files (x86)\RehanFX\ShaderTFX.dll which I think explains why I could get some things to work some of the time.

I have sent Rehan a couple of unanswered messages about this issue. I'm hoping a reader at this site may have a solution.
